We Will Glorify

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen (1 Timothy 1:17).

We Will Glorify, like Great is Thy Faithfulness, helped to lift me up while in China in 2005. The lyric “He is Lord of all the universe” meant he was Lord right there in our hotel room on the other side of the world. You may think it odd that I said this song lifted me up when the song lifts up Christ but James 4:10 says Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. It is much easier to glorify the Lord when we are humbled. Let’s look at how He has been and will be glorified.

His name is glorified. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest (Rev 15:4). I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore (Psalms 86:12). Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him (Psalms 68:4). That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth (Psalms 83:18). Now wonderful is His name! Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again (John 12:28)

My Lord is glorified in the heavens. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth (Psalms 33: 6). O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens (Psalms 8:1). God will be glorified on earth and by all nations of the earth. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth (Psalms 46:10). All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name (Psalms 86:9). The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens (Psalms 113:4). God will glorify in his chosen people, Israel (Psalms 60:7).

God will be glorified forever. Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end (Eph 3:21). And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever (2 Tim 4:18). Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever (Phil 4:20). And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever (Rev 4:9).

We should glorify God when we are in trials and sufferings. And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me (Psalms 50:15). Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea (Isa 24:15). Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf (1 Peter 4:16). We should glorify God with our works. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven Matt (5:16). Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation (1 Pet 2:12). We should glorify God in death. This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me (John 21:19) but that will not be the end of our glorifying Christ. In Heaven we will glorify the Lamb: And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever (Rev 5:13).

While I do not know the motivation for penning the song, I am so happy that in 1982 Twila Paris wrote these lyrics to We Will Glorify:

We will glorify the King of kings
We will glorify the Lamb
We will glorify the Lord of Lords
Who is the great I AM

Lord Jehovah reigns in majesty
We will bow before His throne
We will worship Him in righteousness
We will worship Him alone

He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth
He is Lord of all who live
He is Lord above the universe
All praise to Him we give

Hallelujah to the King of kings
Hallelujah to the Lamb
Hallelujah to the Lord of Lords
Who is the great I AM
