When He Shall Come

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

How wonderful to think about Christ’s return for His church. He will fulfill his promise to take us to where He is. Oh what a day that will be! In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also (John 14:2-3).

We do not know when Jesus will return; no man knows (Matthew 24:35) but He is coming to get his flock. Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven (Acts 1:11).

In the closing chapter of the New Testament Jesus Himself saves he will return quickly. The next to the last verse in the Holy Bible reads, He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus (Revelation 22:20). My question to you, God’s question to you: Are you ready?

When He Shall Come highlights saints in Heaven adorned in white. In the Bible white robes symbolize holiness and righteousness – only obtained once we left this mortal life. After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb (Revelation 7:9-10). And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean (Revelation 19:13-14).

Almeda J. Pearce wrote the lyrics and music for When He Shall Come. The song was published and copyrighted in 1934 [renewed 1962 Estate of Almeda Pearce. Ballwin, MO All rights reserved; no infringement intended.]

When He shall come, resplendent in His glory,To take His own from out this vale of night,
O may I know the joy at His appearing
Only at morn to walk with Him in white!
When I shall stand within the court of Heaven
Where white-robed pilgrims pass before my sight.
Earth’s martyred saints and bloodwashed overcomers,
These then are they who walk with Him in white!
When He shall call, from earth’s remotest corners,
All who have stood triumphant in His might,
O to be worthy then to stand beside them,
And in that morn to walk with Him in white!

I really like this version. Wendy James is able to cover the octaves range in the music beautifully. The song by Ms James may be purchased on Apple iTunes, Amazon Music and CDBaby. Visit wendyjames.com for more information on her ministry.
